Description

Byte Academy is a New York City-based coding bootcamp that specializes in Python for software engineering, data science, full stack web development, blockchain, and more.

Students can opt to take a full-time immersive bootcamp, a remote course, a part-time course, a summer bootcamp, or a Python workshop. Byte Academy is located on the 35th floor of 295 Madison Avenue in New York City. The bootcamp also has a location in Houston, Texas. The school features rolling admissions, and courses start periodically throughout the year. Students who can’t make the in-person courses can opt to take classes online instead.

Additional Info

The programs offered by Byte Academy cover a variety of topics, all of which are centered around Python. Python, which is an extremely versatile high-level programming language, can be used heavily for full stack development and data science. The Python Foundations course introduces students to Python and covers data, logic, loops, error handling, dynamic structures, file storage, and some web interfaces. The full stack Python course also covers JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, Pandas, React, React Native, AJX, and more. Students in the full-length programs also work on a variety of projects, including a music recommendation engine. Data science students learn database fundamentals, statistical applications, machine learning, big data, and more. Data science students also work on projects during the program.

Students in need of housing are encouraged to join the cohort Discord channel to discuss options. Prior to beginning the full-length courses, students are required to complete pre-work or take the introductory Python Foundation Workshop. Once they complete either one of these pre-course options, students move on to select their program. The Python foundation course runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Students in this course attend 8 sessions to graduate. The part-time Python full stack program runs for 24 weeks. Students attend classes twice per week from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The immersive full-time data science bootcamp runs for 14 weeks, and students attend class from Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The full-time Python full stack immersive course follows the same schedule as the immersive data science bootcamp. Completion time for the remote bootcamps vary, and the remote course features rolling start dates.

Byte Academy offers services that prepare students for job interviews throughout the program. The school also introduces students to potential employers in the third phase of the program and after graduation. Through the Byte Academy alumni network, students are promised career assistance services for life.

Prices vary widely at this bootcamp. The Python foundations course costs $500 upfront, and the immersive programs feature a tuition-refund program. The Quant-Algos introductory program costs $1,800. The part-time Quant-Algos program costs $10,000. The longer courses are pricier, starting at $10,000 for the data science program. The full-time Python for full stack software development program costs $12,950, and the part-time program costs $14,000. Byte Academy also offers a full-time financial technology (FinTech) bootcamp for $14,000. Students who decide not to pay upfront can opt for a loan offered through Climb Credit, a bootcamp and alternative-education tuition lender. Loan rates vary based on individual factors.

Switching careers can be a daunting task, but I am glad I chose Byte to help me through this transition. As a former Video Producer, my background is not related to tech but Byte gave me the confidence to pursue my goals. As a smaller program, students receive more individual attention and resources to quickly develop their skills. The teaching staff at Byte is beyond incredible. With their knowledge and help, I quickly went from a novice to writing complex applications in a matter of months. That is not to say that everything comes easy; I spent a lot of hours after school to make sure I was on top of the coursework. It can be quite demanding at times but you get what you put in.

Two friends recommended I attend a bootcamp to learn to code, and so I knew what to expect in terms of work and time going in. Even then, the course was challenging enough that I spent pretty much all my time learning for 14 weeks.

If you stay on top of the work, the Fullstack Immersive will take up a lot of time but I’d expect most people to keep up. I learned a tremendous amount over the 14 weeks, enough to give me confidence in my abilities with Python specifically, but also in learning new languages and frameworks not covered in the course. I don’t always use Python on a day-to-day basis, so the most important skill I learned was probably comfort jumping into entirely new languages or design patterns without feeling lost, and then learning them quickly.

I’d recommend Byte’s Fullstack Immersive to anyone willing to put in the time, but know that it needs to be your priority the entire time or you might risk getting behind.

I decided to make a career change and go from finance to tech, but I knew it was going to be a diffifult transition given my lack of programming experience. With the myriad of options in NYC, I am happy to say that I made the correct decision with Byte Academy. The fintech-focused curriculum complimented my finanical background and most importantly gave me the confidence and ability to go beyond just learning Python.

I started in the foundation class and continued through the full-stack curriculum. It was definitely difficult, but as long as you keep up with the work, you will be pleasantly surprised with all your progress and how much knowledge you amass in several months. I can now confidently say that I am full-stack developer who can create applications in Python, JavaScript, and React.

I recommend this course to those who are willing to put in the work and are ready for a change in their career path.

On paper, the program was structured. However, I felt that when it came to teaching the material, the teaching length wasn’t long enough, and also the instructors were pretty passive. However, it was still a decent introduction into programming; My advice is that DO NOT COME unprepared. The program moves quickly, and the problems are quite challenging, which is good. I would not recommend this bootcamp if your hand needs to constantly be held; I also would not recommend this program if you do not at least 2-3 months of prior experience and are engaged in programming. In terms of the environment, it was a little cluttered, when there weren’t that many people in the foundations program, and I wouldn’t really know what would happen if they scaled.

    Pros:
No crowded classes- basically in every group 3 – 5 people
Location is my favorite- you can look out and see the whole city. By the way, I love my sitting place under the window which has a beautiful outlook(view of the city).:))))
Individual works and education- tutors always helpful, ask the question or you don’t understand something ask, they will happily explain all over until you understand it. By the way,
I want to tell Huge Thanks that guys such as a Carter, Kenso, Greg. :))
    Also, I love PYTHON:))
