Data Science Dojo is a New York City-based data science bootcamp that offers a one-week long comprehensive training program. The program itself lasts for five days and has over 4,000 employed alumni working at 1,000 companies around the world. The curriculum is intensive and covers six major units. The program is designed for beginners who have no data science or coding experience, though any previous relevant skill set is a definite plus. The program has no prerequisite requirements to enter, as it covers data science from the ground-up during the course.
On the first day of class, students will sit through an introduction and begin learning. First, students will learn about data exploration, feature engineering, and data visualization. Another early topic of discussion are the fundamentals of predictive analytics. Later, students will learn about the evaluation and fine-tuning of predictive models. Random forest, bagging, and boosting are also covered. After, students will learn about modeling unstructured date, recommenders, AB testing, and regression. This section covers predictive analytics and more. The final part of the program covers data engineering and big data.
The total length of the flagship program at Data Science Dojo is only five days or one workweek. Students will spend a rigorous 50 hours in the course during this time—Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. It’s imperative for students to attend every class, as they can miss an enormous amount of information from missing just a single day. During the week, students will attend lectures and perform coding exercises. Additionally, students will participate in model building labs during the program and attend a networking dinner at the end of the course. Students should prepare for an additional ten hours of homework during the week, which will be completed online. Students must also complete five hours of course prep work online before attending the course. Other than prep work, there are no prerequisites to attend this course.
After the bootcamp, students are encouraged to watch additional tutorials and webinars to expand their skill set. Available resources include Kaggle Capstone, Naïve Bayes, Logic Regression, NoSQL, and more. While Data Science Dojo doesn’t publish comprehensive job placement and student outcome statistics, it does share that over 4,000 of its alumni work at over 1,000 major companies worldwide. Data Science Dojo graduates work at companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, IBM, Shell, Google, Intel, Facebook, and YouTube.
The total upfront cost of the five-day data science course at Data Science Dojo is $4,000, but students have multiple ways to pay. In addition to the upfront payment, Data Science Dojo offers financing plans and discounts. Some courses are discounted at certain times, and up-to-date information can be found on the Data Science Dojo website. The New York City bootcamp offers payment plans, including the Data Science Dojo Flex-Pay plan. This plan costs $999 down, plus a setup fee of $275. Afterward, payments range between around $167 and $175.
